The Champions League is the most lucrative league in the world of football with the biggest of stars and the best stadiums in the world with the best footballers on the planet. And if that’s not enough, consider the prize money in millions these teams make and then the additional revenue earned via advertisements and ticket sales. It surely is the biggest league in the world of football as far as the footballing calendar is concerned.
Today we look at the potential winners of the winners of the champions league.
Jump to:
1. PSG -
Paris Saint Germain are one of the strongest teams this season and they have a squad as enviable as anyone else. They have the likes of Messi, Neymar, Mbappe & Angel Di Maria as their attacking options. They have Rabiot, G Wjinaldum, A Herrera in their mid-field and have a very strong defensive set-up in the form of Donnarumma as their keeper and the likes of A Hakimi, Sergi Ramos, Kimpembe taking charge of their defense. With a star studded team like that and a team that is playing well together, PSG certainly look like the team that can lift the champions league.
2. Manchester City -
Manchester City are one of the overwhelming favourites to win the competition this year. Last season they finished as the finalists of the competition where they could not beat Chelsea. However this season is a fresh start and Pep Guardiola and his team know how to learn from their mistakes and come out all guns blazing. They have been playing without a proper striker yet scoring so many goals and keeping possession of the ball is simply incredible.
3. Liverpool -
You will never walk alone! And Liverpool certainly look like a team that will not walk alone without a trophy this season. They are playing some of the best football they have played under Jurgen Klopp and with Salah in the form of his life, they certainly are one team no one will be looking to come up against. With the whole team fit and no injuries this season unlike the last one, they certainly are a force to be reckoned with. They have so far won 5 out of 5 games that they have played in this season’s champions league and are the only team in the competition to do so.
4. Chelsea -
The defending champions have certainly played like one and they are just getting and getting better with every game. They are very miserly when it comes to conceding goals and are doing a pretty decent job when it comes to scoring them. Another advantage that they have over most teams is that they have some serious squad depth and have world class back-ups for almost all positions. But you win titles only when you have the best defence in the competition and they certainly have one.
5. Bayern Munich -
Obviously the most usual suspects whenever such a list is made, Bayern Munich are one of the best teams when it comes to crunch matches and knock out stages. They had just won the champions league two seasons back and they certainly look like they could achieve champions league glory yet again. Robert Lewandowski has been in the form of his life and has been scoring for fun. With winger L Sane also starting to up the ante and finally finding his feet for the German side, if there is one team you do not want to come up against during knock-out matches, it is this team. Don’t believe us? Ask FC Barcelona.
6. Real Madrid -
Yes they are not the team that they used to be. Yes, they do not have the same team that won it three in a row. But yes they are Real Madrid and they are the Los Blancos and they are one of the all time best teams of this competition and one would be a fool to discount them out. With K Benzema and V Junior playing well together and scoring almost every game, they certainly are the dark horses to lift the Champions League trophy yet again!
7. Manchester United -
Wait, What? Yep, you heard us right. And there is only one reason for this. In Fact just one name - Cristiano Ronaldo. He is Mr Champions League and you can never ever discount his team out of the possible contenders list. Even though Manchester United are struggling badly, they still have a pretty good squad and if they can somehow handle their defensive woes, they have a team as good as anyone and then they obviously have Ronaldo who has already scored 6 goals in the 5 champions leagues games so far.
8. Juventus -
Even though it seems a little far fetched, one of the great things about this Juventus team is that they do not have any big star players who steal the limelight away from the other players or whose gameplay affects the team game. They have a young but experienced and a very talented lot of players and if they can play together, maybe the old lady can win a champions league trophy after ages.
9. Ajax -
They are playing like a team in the literal sense of the word and are attacking well, defending well and more than anything they certainly seem hungry under a hungrier manager who has improved their gameplay by leaps and bounds. Don’t be surprised if you hear Ajax going all the way up in this season’s champions league.
10. AC Milan -
They are back in the champions league after 8 long years and will be looking at their past history for all the motivation they need. They have a young crop of players who certainly are very eager to do all the hard work and if they can somehow qualify from Group B which seems very tricky at the moment, Milan certainly can make their mark in this year’s league.
