Football is back and so are the fans. The Premier League returns too and our weekends are gonna be lit again. The crazy derbies, the iconic moments, sparks of brilliance, and most of all watching the beautiful game being played in the most competitive and the best football league in the world. No matter which team you support, where your team’s proposition of ending the season is, there is no doubt to the fact that during the start of the season, everyone has that belief that they could be on to the start of something very special here which is why we have compiled a list of the potential title contenders for this year’s English Premier League 2021-22.
Let us dive straight right into it and look at our potential contenders for the 2021-22 season -
1. Manchester United -
It's been a long time coming, isn't it? There was a time when United used to dominate the premier league during the Sir Alex Ferguson era and ever since his retirement, United has fallen through the cracks changing players and managers one after another. But now they have a settled squad under Ole and now with how they performed last season and yet finished second and now with the signings of Sancho & Varane, United have shown that they clearly mean business and hence this is why they are serious title contenders this time around and how they have started also shows why they are one.
They started the first week with a bang defeating Leed United and giving them a 5-1 thrashing at home with Bruno scoring a hattrick and Pogba providing 4 assists and that too without featuring their best possible side. So don't count them out this time, this may be their season.
2. Manchester City -
The champions of last season and the finalists of the Champions League last season too and this time they are serious title contenders yet again. Pep and Manchester City just keep getting better and better every year. They have already signed Jack Grealish for $100 million and now they are also planning another bid for Harry Kane who could cost something in the range of $150m and with how the wind is blowing, they might be able to sign him too. If they do manage to sign him, they would be way ahead of the rest of the lot if they are not already with what Harry Kane brings to the table.
They already had a very impressive bench strength featuring the world’s most expensive bench every time they played last season, this season it gets even better. So yes! The defending champions might make it two in a row and are the favourites to lift the trophy yet again.
3. Liverpool -
The Champions of 2019 were struck with injuries last season and that too with some serious complications. Their almost whole defensive squad was injured last season and was out for many many games and hence they had to contend with most of their brilliant midfielders playing as defenders. With a season-long injury to players like Van Dyk, Matip, Gomez they had to somehow survive the season, and miraculously they even qualified for the champions league spot.
This season, they have taken a lot of lessons from their mistakes which is why they have signed a potential World Class defender in the form of Konate and added a few other reinforcements to their defence even during the later half of last season and look good and roaring to go. And with the front three of Mane, Firmino, Salah, and Jota too, this side too is a serious title contender.
4. Chelsea -
They won the champions league last season, the Uefa Super Cup at the start of the new season, even after having a serious squad depth, they signed the inform Lukaku from Inter for over $100m. Chelsea has always meant business but their willingness to sign Lukaku shows how serious they are about it. With players like Reece James, Kante, Werner, Mount, Havertz, Pullisic, Chelsea have some serious firepower in their ranks and also have a very well sorted defence with the likes of Silva, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Chilwell. If you are a Chelsea fan, well this could well be your season.
5. Leicester City -
Sounds like a joke right? In 2021 it might sound like a little joke. Imagine if someone mentioned that during 2015, they would be laughed at and maybe even thrown off the room. But they did win it in 2015-16 making it one of the biggest success stories in the world of sports if ever there was one. They have a solid team with a solid manager. They just defeated Manchester City (again) to win the Community Shield straight out of the hands of the defending champions and just missed out on the last 4 spots just on the final day of the season. Leicester is a team to watch out for even this season.
